Casual Bargaining Unit

Dear Casual members,

We are thrilled to announce that after months of negotiations, your bargaining committee has reached a tentative agreement (Memorandum of Agreement) with U of T. 

A tentative agreement is a contract negotiated between a union and an employer, subject to approval by union members. The deal includes several changes that impact your working conditions. 

We will send a comprehensive summary and explanation of the changes early next week. Some of the highlights include:

  • A minimum wage increase to $16.55, effective from the date of ratification
  • Retroactive wage increases of 1% on July 2020, 2.6% on July 2021, and 2.7% on July 2022 (for active staff)
  • Two paid sick days/year, effective July 1st
  • Access to EFAP (Employment & Family Assistance Program)
  • Up to five days of bereavement leave with no loss of pay
  • Improved safety boot allowance language

In order to go into effect, the agreement must be ratified by casual unit members.

We will be holding three virtual ratification meetings via Zoom on Thursday, May 18th: 2 PM – 3 PM, 5 PM – 6 PM, and 8 PM – 9 PM.

During the meetings, a summary of the tentative agreement will be provided, and members will have the opportunity to share their thoughts and ask questions.

There will be a voting period of two days. Voting will start May 18th around 2 PM and end May 19th at 11:59 PM. All members will be emailed a secure voting link.
